The laws of kashrus are the most common laws in our daily lives which is why it is particularly important to learn them thoroughly, to know what to do and how to handle a question that arises.
The laws of kashrus are the most common laws in our daily lives which is why it is particularly important to learn them thoroughly, to know what to do and how to handle a question that arises. Every Jew encounters kashrus questions on a daily basis and so, learning the halachos is practical; on top of the importance of Torah study.
The "Hilchos Kashrus" course at Lemaan Yilmedu covers the most important topics in the laws of kashrus in four main areas:
1. The laws of meat and milk - transferring taste, sharp food, insects, blood in eggs, parve foods, etc.
2. The laws of gentile food - the cooking of a gentile, bread of a gentile, milk of a gentile, etc.
3. The laws of immersing keilim - the laws of ownership of the kli, types of keilim, chatzitza, etc.
4. The laws of purging keilim - the laws of hagala, libun, kashering a kitchen, different types of keilim, etc.
As mentioned, the learning will focus on the practical but will include learning from the Shulchan Aruch in order to get down the basics and gain an understanding of the halacha in the best possible way.
Along with the weekly class, students will get booklets of summaries and diagrams which will help them understand the halachos, as well as booklets with the Shulchan Aruch with English translation.
If you've always wanted to learn the laws of kashrus in a thorough way, this is your chance!
The current course offers two tracks:
One-Year Track – A structured and in-depth study of Hilchos Kashrus, culminating in a certificate of completion for these halachot.
Two-Year Track – In the first year, students study Hilchos Kashrus; in the second year, they continue with the laws of ta'arovot, culminating in a semicha certificate issued by the Vaad HaRabbanim of Lemaan Yilmedu.
The learning will focus on the practical but will include learning from the Shulchan Aruch in order to get down the basics and gain an understanding of the halacha in the best possible way.
